In the wild, clownfish are naturally social and often form mated pairs, sometimes with other juveniles in a group around an anemone.
In captivity, pairing is common, and a single clownfish can be kept and thrive. Moreover, clownfish are territorial by nature even when they're alone. Their behavioral differences, when kept alone are more interactive and exploratory, while pairs may be more confined to a specific area.
I painted this piece to capture the solitary expression the clownfish are known for.
